The Girl Online Series - to Love it or Hate it?

Wassup guys? So yesterday I've just finished the final book in the Girl Online series by Zoella, Girl Online - Going Solo.

I know there's a lot of controversy with these books. There are lots of reviews pinning it as "cheesy, cliche and not well written", and that may be mildly true, but I can't deny how much I love this series.

I'm not saying that Zoe Sugg is the world's best author (and I do happen to know that this series was ghostwritten), but I'm saying that if the characters and storyline are enjoyable enough to read that they get you glued to this book and longing to read more, then they are most definitely worth reading. If a book can make you laugh out loud and cry both happy and sad tears (both have happened to me while reading these!!) then, at the end of the day, does it really matter if it's not very original?

I still don't really understand why the series gets so much hate. I was so addicted to reading these that I actually reread the first book - and I never reread books! Ever! So surely that's saying something...?

My favourite thing about this series is the characters. Penny is such a lovely main character - she's sweet, funny and clumsy (I like reading about clumsy MCs because it makes me feel a little less like this myself! :P), and I love reading about characters that actually do things, for example Penny's favourite hobby is photography. And obviously I love Noah and him and Penny are so perfect for each other and they are one of my OTPs and they are so beautiful and ahhhh!!!! *Sighs* I really am a hopeless romantic, aren't I?

Also the friendships in this book are one of the main reasons that I keep reading. Elliot (Penny's best friend) has to be the best friend you could ever have. He's always there for Penny and would do anything for her, and I cried at the end of Going Solo because well, he was going through such a hard time and ok, ok, breath, happy tears. 😭

And did I mention that Kira and Amara are such phenomenal characters too? They had Penny's back when no one (apart from Elliot) did.

I just realised that I forgot to do a synopsis, so here goes:

Penny Porter is the average schoolgirl living in Brighton, but she has a blog called Girl Online where she writes about her true feelings and emotions going from schoolwork to secret crushes. When her family's job takes them to New York, and meets Noah - an eighteen-year-old boy who loves music. They instantly connect and Penny begins to fall for Noah, but what she doesn't know is that he is hiding something very important from her... something that threatens to destroy not only their relationship, but potentially Penny's whole world.

So to sum up, I guarantee that you will enjoy this book if you like YA contemporaries including friendship, romance, blog posts and crunchy peanut butter! Yum... now I'm hungry...

So I'm adding a comments section to my blog, and I'd love to know if you guys have read this series already, and what you think of it, or if you haven't but think it definitely sounds worth reading!

See ya!

Bubbles xoxo

P.S. Don't these books have the most beautiful covers in the history of covers!?! I just look at them and they make me SO HAPPY! 😉
